Just off the shores of Miami Beach, something extraordinary is taking shape beneath the surface. It’s called The ReefLine, and it’s transforming a stretch of ocean into a one-of-a-kind underwater sculpture park — a place where art, marine life, and human imagination meet.
Beautiful, accessible, and designed for everyone from first-time snorkelers to seasoned divers, The ReefLine offers a new way to experience Miami: from below the waves.
Instead of hanging in museums or towering over urban plazas, the artworks of The ReefLine rest gently on the ocean floor. Each sculpture becomes a destination for visitors who swim or snorkel above it, turning a simple day at the beach into a completely immersive adventure.
The very first installation, Concrete Coral by artist Leandro Erlich, features 22 life-sized cars crafted from marine-safe concrete. It creates the surreal scene of a traffic jam frozen on the ocean floor — a playful, surprising contrast to the natural world around it.
Visitors float above it, watching fish weave through windows and sunlight ripple across the sculptures. It’s art that invites curiosity, wonder, and exploration.

The ReefLine isn’t just a sculpture park — it’s designed to become a thriving habitat over time.
Marine scientists and designers worked together to shape the structures so they support coral growth and attract sea life naturally. Surfaces include ridges, textures, and spaces where coral fragments can be placed and grow.
Nearby, The ReefLine’s own coral lab cultivates native coral species that will eventually be transplanted onto the sculptures. As these corals grow, the artworks gradually turn into colourful, living reefs, welcoming fish, sea fans, and other marine creatures.
It’s a rare chance to see art evolve — not just visually, but biologically.
One of the most exciting things about The ReefLine is how accessible it is. The installation sits just off Miami Beach, close enough to reach by swimming, snorkelling, or a short dive. There’s no ticket, no boat trip, no special equipment required (other than a snorkel and mask).
Because the sculptures sit at approachable depths, visitors of many ages can experience them, making The ReefLine a perfect adventure for families, art lovers, photographers and nature enthusiasts, bringing people closer to the ocean in a fun and inviting way.
Concrete Coral is only the beginning. The full ReefLine will roll out in phases, eventually stretching several miles along the coast. Future installations will include:
The Miami Reef Star — a star-shaped collection of large reef modules designed to attract sea life
Heart of Okeanos — a graceful sculptural form inspired by the anatomy of marine life
Each new addition will expand the underwater trail, creating a growing world of creativity and colour beneath the waves.

The ReefLine adds something entirely fresh to Miami Beach — a blend of art, ocean exploration, and hands-on discovery. Whether you’re floating above Erlich’s submerged cars or watching the first fish move into their new homes, every visit offers something unexpected.
It’s not just a place to look — it’s a place to experience.
For locals, it’s a new chapter in the city’s cultural and natural identity. For visitors, it’s a memory they won’t forget. And for the ocean, it’s a thoughtful gesture of creativity and care.
