Our client, Beautiful Samoa, has proudly hosted the King’s Baton Relay for the first time, marking a historic milestone as the island nation joined the global journey toward the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The multi-day event, held in late January 2026, placed Samoa firmly in the international spotlight, celebrating a unique blend of culture, sport, and environmental stewardship. As part of a reimagined relay format, each Commonwealth nation has the opportunity to design its own programme—allowing Samoa to highlight its identity and priorities on a global stage.
The Baton’s arrival in the capital, Apia, was marked by a vibrant ceremonial welcome. Traditional elements, including a kava ceremony and cultural performances, reflected Samoa’s rich heritage and strong community values. Local athletes and youth representatives carried the Baton through key locations, symbolising unity and national pride.
Beyond ceremony, Samoa used the Relay as a platform to champion environmental responsibility—an issue of critical importance to Pacific island nations. Community-led coastal clean-up initiatives and plastic reduction efforts formed a central part of the programme, aligning with wider Commonwealth campaigns to protect ocean ecosystems.
Organised in collaboration with the Samoa Tourism Authority and national stakeholders, the event also reinforced Samoa’s growing commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism. By integrating cultural storytelling with environmental action, the Relay highlighted the nation as a destination that values both heritage and conservation.
The King’s Baton Relay is a longstanding tradition of the Commonwealth Games, carrying a message from King Charles III to athletes across the Commonwealth. The Relay will continue its global journey before concluding at the Opening Ceremony in Glasgow in July 2026.
Samoa’s successful hosting of this international event not only celebrates its first participation in the Relay but also positions the nation as a leader in combining sport, culture, and sustainability on the world stage.
