Imagine tasting fresh seafood, traditional dishes and local Majorcan wines within quaint town squares or on golden sands… Calvià’s “Mostra de Cuines' festival is Majorca’s most anticipated event for foodies! This gastronomic showcase is held twice a year, usually in April and October. Over April different towns in Calvià will take turns to spotlight their delectable menus each Friday starting 8 April (see schedule below), offering a flavour of the region and its local produce at set prices between 14€ and 18€ for three courses and a drink.
First started in 2008, the aim of the event is to present the region’s varied and fresh cuisine, as well as allow visitors to sample some of Majorca’s top restaurants at a reasonable price. Although initially only held in April, in 2013, restaurateurs and Visit Calvià decided to double the fun and a second festival is now celebrated in October also. Visit Calvià intends “Mostra de Cuines” to be an event that can be enjoyed by all. Therefore, they encourage restaurants to offer alternative menus that cater for many dietary requirements, such as gluten-free and vegetarian, at no additional cost. Children’s menus are also available so that whole families can enjoy Calvià’s gastronomy. Together they can enjoy and learn about traditional cuisine such as coca de trempó, flatbread topped with tangy onions and juicy tomatoes, or sobrasada, a spiced cured sausage.
Visit Calvià, in collaboration with Calvià Town Hall, is preparing a complete guide listing the participating restaurants for each festival, as well as information about menus, prices, locations and contact details of all participating establishments.
