From food fairs to plays and music festivals, Majorca offers an action-packed program for visitors and locals alike to enjoy in October. Well known for its marvellous beaches with crystal-clear water, stunning natural landscapes and breath-taking scenery, Majorca is home to a broad cultural heritage and art scene accompanied by a wide range of gastronomic delights.
Here are some of next month’s highlights. Please note these annual events can inspire you to visit Majorca next year too.
GASTRONOMY
Fira del Botifarró
Considered of national tourist importance, the Fira del Botifarró takes place on Sunday 02 October and invites participants to eat pork sausages roasted in the warmth of large bonfires. The event has been held for more than 60 years in the village of Sant Joan, where people relax and enjoy the sound of music while grilling slices of bread and botifarrons, traditional black pudding
Fira Dolça de Esporles
Cakes and sweets take centre stage in what has to be the most awaited event by the local children. During the Fira Dolça de Esporles on 01 and 02 October 2022, plenty of activities such as nougat and candy-making masterclasses, tastings and presentations by local confectioners will have your taste buds tingling.
Fira de la llampuga
On 08 and 09 October 2022, Fira de la llampuga will bring together local restaurants, hotels and fishermen to showcase their creative culinary skills in Cala Ratjada. Over the two-day event visitors will learn a thousand and one different ways to cook fish.
Fira del Pebre Bord
Majorcan pepper is the star turn of this fair held in Felanitx on 22 and 23 October 2022. Visitors can watch culinary demonstrations and take part in “pepper-themed” workshops to discover some of the island's traditional dishes such as the sobrasada.
MUSIC
Port de Sóller, Classical Music Festival
Established in 2005, the Port de Sóller Classical Music Festival is an unmissable cultural event for music lovers. Joining the line-up this year are the Clarinet Trio Anthology, Storioni Trio, Natalia Gabuni and Evelina Dobračeva. The festival takes place on 01, 08, 15 and 22 October 2022.
International Organ Festival
Featuring internationally renowned organists, the International Organ Festival has taken place in Majorca’s cathedral in Palma since 2000, where members of the public can listen to great concerts every Sunday, in super surroundings.
Bunyola Music Festival
Each year, from September to December, this Music Festival brings together prestigious soloists and classical music ensembles. As part of the programme, the Festival Jove (youth festival) gives young artists an opportunity to perform different pieces in front of an enthusiastic audience.
Euroclàssics Winter Classical Music Festival
In an effort to promote classical music, the city of Palma is once again hosting the Euroclàssics winter classical music festival. Starting on 01 October 2022 and featuring Majorca’s musical heritage, the event promises a magical atmosphere full of history and culture as well as live music performed by well-known artists.
THEATRE AND CINEMA
Manacor Theatre Fair
Every autumn, Majorca welcomes theatre enthusiasts to the Manacor Theatre Fair when the town of Palma opens some of its venues, including the Teatro Municipal Xesc Forteza, for locals and visitors alike to immerse themselves in incredible plays throughout October.
Evolution Majorca International Film Festival
Film lovers will not be left aside thanks to the Evolution Majorca International Film festival taking place from 26 October to 01 November 2022 and featuring an extensive programme of short and feature movies, documentaries and music videos .
The Procession of Santa Catalina Tomàs
In October, Palma also celebrates its Patron Saint, Santa Catalina Tomàs with a parade taking to the city’s main streets and historic district on 15 October.
