Focus On MICE For The Mallorca Tourism Foundation

Updated: Feb 3, 2023

Our client, the Mallorca Tourism Foundation (MFT) has become the latest member of the Mallorca Convention Bureau (MCB) by joining its board of directors, along with the Palma 365 Tourism Foundation. Established four decades ago, the Mallorca Convention Bureau was the first privately owned office of its kind to operate in Spain. By collaborating with the Mallorca Tourism Foundation, it has now become a public and privately owned entity following years of close partnership that have led Mallorca to grow exponentially as a destination of choice for Meeting, Incentive, Conference and Event (MICE) organisers.

Talking about this new alliance, Ms Catalina Cladera, President of the Consell de Mallorca, Mallorca’s governing body, highlighted that "the collaboration of the Consell with the City Council will position the Mallorca Convention Bureau as a benchmark in the meetings and convention tourism sector". Cladera went on to say that the MICE strategy in Mallorca aims "to strengthen its year-round offer with diversified and contemporary options".

Over the past decades, the island has established itself as a major MICE destination thanks to the quality of its infrastructure operating within a professional, safe and sustainable environment.

Medical Meetings and Conventions

Mallorca is the perfect host destination for medical conferences and conventions with over 300 specialised facilities such as the Biotechnology and Biomedicine Business Park (ParcBit) or the University of the Balearic Islands along with plenty of hotels equipped with auditoriums and break-out rooms and an array of activities showcasing the islands’ great outdoors and good year-around weather. Its extensive health network including four public and two private hospitals, 15000 health professionals and leading research centres, blood banks and laboratories have positioned Mallorca as one of Europe’s most renowned medical centres, easily competing with any other capital on the continent. In October 2021, the city of Palma was endorsed by the Ethical MedTech Conference Vetting System as an ideal location to host medical events during the island’s shoulder and low season.

Access

Stretching only 100 km from one end of the island to the other, Mallorca’s road network is quick to navigate and features stunning and diverse landscapes. Furthermore, Palma de Mallorca international airport connects to all main European capitals in less than 3 hours.

MICE infrastructure

Depending on the scale of their events, MICE organisers can choose from the many options available from large and fully equipped convention centres to small exclusive spaces. Popular venues for large events include the fish-shaped Convention Centre (Palacio de Congresos) in Palma, designed by the Navarrese architect Francisco Mangado as well as the Palma Auditorium, located on the Paseo Marítimo overlooking the port. In addition, Mallorca also offers a large selection of auditoriums, theatres, fairgrounds, convention centres and multifunctional halls. Smaller gatherings can opt for traditional houses, sanctuaries, old palaces, fortresses or monasteries featuring Mallorca’s rich historical and artistic heritage.

Accommodation

Like any other major international MICE destination, Mallorca boasts a wide range of accommodation catering for all group sizes and budgets from large international resorts to small boutique hotels, luxury establishments and rural retreats.

Activities

The island is ideal for outdoors activities in its spectacular natural parks, forests and beaches. Mallorca is the perfect place to practise sports from cycling or hiking through the UNESCO World Heritage Site Tramuntana Mountain Range to water sports or a spot of golf on one of its 24 courses. In addition, those seeking real relaxation can indulge in the island’s many wellness, spa, thalassotherapy and thermal centres.

Gastronomy

Mallorca’s gastronomic scene is one of the most varied in the Mediterranean. Here, diners can choose from restaurants serving traditional dishes using local seasonal products to modern, avant-garde cuisine and fine wines curated by talented Michelin starred chefs.
