This month, Calvià will see Majorcan and Spanish artists fill the region’s streets with their designs, adding a new route to the art trails that were first created in 2012 from Calvià to Capdella. The sixth now bi-annual event will add a fourth urban art trail to the island. Not only does the artwork add a splash of colour and intrigue in unexpected places from the streets and apartments to schools and halls, the trails are created to encourage interaction between tourists and locals. This year, out of 43 applications, 5 artists have been selected to work along the new route, all with contrasting art styles and approaches striving to make statements about the spaces they will work in. These five artists are Joan Cabrer, Manolo Mesa, Cesar Goce and Pedro Kouba, Dafne Tree and Sabek.
Joan Cabrer
Joan Cabrer, hails from the island’s capital, Palma - only 10 minutes away from Calvià. Locally recognised, the artist’s work contrasts the digital world that forms part of our everyday life with nature. Cabrer aims to explore how the beautiful landscape is obscured by the digital screens in which we find ourselves immersed in on a daily basis.
Manolo Mesa
Interestingly, Manolo Mesa takes a more people-orientated approach and undertakes an in-depth study on the local culture. Mesa captures the essence of the region and elevates it in his work, depicting local culture in everyday objects such as pots with traditional engravings.
Cesar Goce and Pedro Kouba
Valencian artists Cesar Goce and Pedro Kouba’s works will be found in Es Capdella. Their pieces blur the line between the artificial and the natural, the private and the public.
Dafne Tree
Dafne Tree presents an architectural study of the district based on its shapes and structures. The artist gives relevance to places that have gone unnoticed.
Sabek
For the final artist, Sabek, art in public spaces is a dialogue between the environment and society. His work raises awareness of these messages which is then visualised through the animal kingdom and nature.
The artworks will be finished by the end of November, when the new trail will be unveiled. Maps are available from the local tourist offices, cultural centers and libraries of Calvià.

Visit Calvià manages the “BetArt” programme which aims to create an open-air art exhibition for all to enjoy in public spaces. Existing trails can be found from Palmanova to Magaluf, Santa Ponça-Galatzo to Peguera, and the third in Cas Catala, Illetes, Bendinat, Portals and Costa d’en Blanes.
